Oct 2012

The September Meeting of the First State Brewers was held at the How Do You Brew store in Newark.

The voluntary “dollar in the hat” method of collection has proven to work as $18 in dues were collected. (I think someone donated $5) Thank you everyone!

Elections for club officers will be held in December. Nominations will be open at the October & November meetings. Scott Bieber expressed interest in running for President. Tammy Perlot will be running for Secretary, again.

Joe Gallo gave a tour of the How Do You Brew expansion space next door. He plans to remove the wall between the two creating one big store. Along with the expansion will come a large refrigerator with sliding doors to provide a greater inventory of hops and yeast! :-)

Scott Bieber shared a bottle of Rodenbach Grand Cru which was described by Michael Jackson as the most refreshing beer in the world. Scott said, “When I heard him call it that in a Youtube video (below), I had to run out and buy it to try for myself!”

By the way, if you haven’t joined the First State Brewers Facebook Group, you are missing out on a lot of great brewing discussion! We have lots of fun, too! This is different than the Facebook Page we have. The Group allows us to interact with one another. :-)

The October meeting will be held at the home of Bill King on Friday, October 19, at 7:30pm.

108 Cheyenne Ct.
Newark DE, 19702

If you have a Kölsch available, bring it to the meeting, as Bill will be conducting an informal Kölsch competition. Bill announced this competition on Facebook a few months ago and has been mentioned at meetings. Bill is a fan of traditional European style brews and is a sticker for adhering to those style guidelines. So, no “Imperial Cherry Kölsches”, please! ;-)

Also, an owner of the Evil Genius Beer Company has been invited to the meeting to talk about his contract brew.
