This is a recap of the March meeting of the First State Brewers
Due to the absence of Scott, I (JoeBob Jacobs) will be providing a review of March’s meeting.
Held at the home of Jerry Carney, where the Guinness flows perfectly. In attendance were:
- Home Brew:
- JoeBob Jacobs Pirate Flag Porter, Jamaican Voodoo Stout
- Mike Mansfield: Belgian Dubbel, Chocolate Porter
- Jeff Dobies: Strawberry Red Wine, Bass Ale as well?
- Jeff Ramberg: Brown Home Brew (said it was a Stout, I’m not buying it!) Also O’Hara’s Irish Stout and Beamish
- Store Bought:
- Jeff Daniels: Nugget Nectar, Hop Wallop
- Hank Keller: Harp Lager for a perfect black and tan.
- George Coulter: Boston East India Pale Ale, Stoudt’s Pils
- Marty Drinin: McSorleys Black Lager
- Laura Palmer: Delirium Tremens, Chimay (Blue)
First off, I’d like the welcome new member George Coulter who has just brewed his first batch this past week (only proper excuse for bringing store bought beer). He seems to be off to an ambitious start with his second batch slated to be a Pilsner with actual Pilsner lager yeast!
He is also planning to jump right in to all grain brewing.
Also a special guess appearance by a friend of mine, Laura Palmer, who is fascinated by good beer and so had to check out the club and it’s brews. P.S. she always shows up with the most premium beers!
Some of the nights discussions included, location of the next meeting, a brew tool demo and a possible field trip.
First off, I will be hosting the next meeting on April 18th. We will
be brewing with my yet to be finished single tier 10gl system. The
recipe has not been discussed yet but I will start a Post for
suggestions.
I also brought a piece of equipment for show and tell, a mash tun
filter manifold. Made from 3 easy to obtain materials, I have found
this type of manifold to be most efficient. Even when using flaked
grains or wheat, it has never failed me. It was made just before the meeting in about 5 minutes and for under $20. Pictures are posted under the Files Tab.
The last main discussion was of a trip to the Garden State Craft
Brewers Guild aboard the Battleship New Jersey on Saturday, June
20th. Again, a post of this trip will be started for info and
planning.
That’s it for now and I hope to see everyone at the next meeting!
The April Meeting will be on Friday, April 17, at 7:30pm, at the home of JoeBob Jacobs.
