Big Brew – National Homebrew Day

Big Brew—National Homebrew DayThe First State Brewers is planning to participate in the Big Brew by conducting an all-grain club brew event on Saturday, May 2, 2009. The Big Brew is in celebration of National Homebrew Day, which is recognized each year on the first Saturday in May all around the world. Club member, Dave Lawrence, has agreed to host this event at his home in Newark. The exact time will be posted later, but since all-grain brewing takes 6 hours, plan on coming early and staying late! Should be a lot of fun! If you would like to attend or want more information, please email or use the site Contact Form to let me know.

Check it out! I modified the blog to function as the main website for the First State Brewers. This change was done to allow for and easier method of updating Club information and encouraging Club participation. If there is anything you’d like me to add, please let me know!

You may have also noticed that you can now share these posts on Facebook. That should help increase this site’s visibility and hopefully bring more people out to meetings!

Yuengling’s free tours have long drawn visitors to Pottsville, Pa.

POTTSVILLE, Pa. — Folks like to say the first great thing William Penn did for his Pennsylvania colony in the 17th century was to grant religious freedom and the second was building a brewery to celebrate.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the nation’s oldest brewery, D.G. Yuengling & Son, also is in Pennsylvania, and it’s open for inspection every day.

Many Delawareans and Pennsylvanians have taken the free tour of the Pottsville facility, which is celebrating its 180th year. Often they pack in a full day, visiting Hawk Mountain, a nearby sanctuary for birds of prey, or Cabela’s, a megasize outdoor sporting goods store.
